Position Overview:
Avana is hiring for a Construction Labourer position. The successful applicant will be a professional, self-reliant, trustworthy, punctual, and efficient individual who has endurance, the ability to follow instructions, and a commitment to safety. This position performs on-site manual labour tasks and supports the operations of our worksites. On a per-project basis, this role will report to the Site Superintendent. Organizationally, this role will report to the Director, Construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clean job sites of all construction materials and refuse at various stages of the builds.
- Tidy and clean houses under construction at various stages of the builds.
- Construct and place temporary sidewalks.
- Construct and install temporary handrails and stairs as requested.
- Install appliances.
- Install lock sets.
- Deliver materials on an as-needed basis with truck and/or trailer.
- General maintenance on existing properties as needed.
- Drywall checkout.
- Support the Site Coordinators and Carpenters with any additional tasks as needed.
- Other duties as directed by the Site Supervisor or Site Superintendent.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract. Ability to haul a trailer is an asset.
- Preference to work in a fast-paced environment and a commitment to excellence.
- Accuracy and attention to detail, possessing positive interpersonal skills.
- Heavy lifting, working outdoors, and manual labour tasks are a large focus of the role. Must be able to safely lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work outside all year.
- Ability to work independently and self-schedule. Be efficient with time management.
- Pride yourself on high-quality work. Ability to be a team player.
- This position may entail overtime as needed.
- Must have a working cell phone.
- The candidate must supply their own hard hat and CSA-approved steel-toed boots.
- Must be legally eligible to accept employment in Canada.
Compensation Package:
- Benefits: Dental and medical benefits package. 80% of the cost is covered by Avana. Option for employee to purchase disability and life insurance.
- Pension Plan: The Pension Plan will commence in your second year of employment. 2% of salary matched in year two, 3% of salary matched in year three, 4% of salary matched in year four and 5% of salary matched in year five.
- Vacation Entitlement: 20 business days per year. Must be accumulated prior to taking them.
- Annual Bonus: Opportunity to earn up to 10% of salary as an annual bonus.
- Parental Leave: Once an employee has worked a full year (12 months) at Avana, they are eligible for four (4) months of salary top-up to $15,000, with ongoing benefits based on the terms stated above. Pension matching will not apply for the duration of the period of leave. If an employee provides resignation within 24 months of the paternal leave return date, the total amount of the salary top-up will be repaid to Avana.
- Probation Period: The probation period is 90 days from the start date.
- Criminal Record Checks are required for all Avana employees prior to being hired and will not be reimbursed by the Employer.
