Avana’s Chairwoman and Chief Executive Officer is seeking a dedicated and passionate educator for her family. We are hiring an experienced Middle Years Teacher, focusing on math and science, with experience teaching primary grades. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, kind, and motivated teacher with experience working with students in grades four to eight, teaching the math and science curricula. The Middle Years Teacher must be flexible, nimble, and adaptable to the family’s ever-changing, fast-paced lifestyle.
Position Overview:
The Middle Years Teacher is a full-time salary role teaching in a hybrid work environment; where an in-home classroom will be supplied and the successful candidate will be travelling to the United States will be required for up to four (4) weeks a year. The educator will follow the Saskatchewan Curriculum and report student progress to the Prairie Valley School Division via their Home-Based Learning guidelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe, fun, and educational hybrid learning environment four (4) days per week.
- Prepare and implement daily activities and lessons in alignment with the Saskatchewan curriculum with a focus on math and science.
- Organize supplies and resources for planned lessons and activities.
- Assign homework, grade tests, and evaluate and document each student's progress, as required by the Saskatchewan curriculum.
- Full supervision of children during regular school hours, including lunch and recess breaks.
- Transport and attend student’s physical activity lessons.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience.
- Must have a Bachelor of Education with a valid Saskatchewan Teacher’s Certificate.
- Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Experience working with middle years students is an asset.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to manage change well are essential.
- Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel to Palm Springs, United States for up to four (4) weeks a year. Must have a valid passport.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion, privacy, and confidentiality is crucial.
- Must be legally eligible to accept employment in Canada.
Compensation Package:
- Salary Range: Aligned with the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF) salary grid.
- Benefits: Dental and medical benefits package. 80% of the cost is covered by Avana. Option for employees to purchase disability and life insurance.
- Pension: The Pension Plan will commence at the start of your second year of employment. 2% of salary matched in year two, 3% of salary matched in year three, 4% of salary matched in year 4, and 5% of salary matched in year 5. Avana’s matched portion vests 12 months after first contribution.
- Annual Bonus: Opportunity to earn up to 10% of salary as an annual bonus.
- Parental Leave: Once an employee has worked a full year (12 months) at Avana, they are eligible for four (4) months of salary top-up to $15,000, with ongoing benefits based on the terms stated above. Pension matching will not apply for the duration of the period of leave. If an employee provides their resignation within 24 months of the paternal leave return date, the total amount of the salary top-up will be repaid to Avana.
- Probation Period: The probation period is 90 days from the start date listed.
- COVID-19 Protocol: Avana requires all employees to be fully vaccinated. Exemptions may be made for anyone who has a confirmed medical diagnosis with a doctor’s note.
- A Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check are required for this role before being hired. This will be obtained at your expense and will not be reimbursed by the Employer.
